2018 Arizona State prospect primer

Below are notable Arizona State players eligible for the 2018 NFL Draft. The Sun Devils are hoping to return to the success of Coach Todd Graham’s first few years with the program. After nailing down double digit wins in 2013 and 2014, the team has lost seven games in each of the last two seasons. Senior ball carriers Richard and Ballage lead the way on offense; although perhaps Alabama transfer Blake Barnett can add some life to the passing game.

Offense

Running Back Demario Richard – 5100, 210 – Senior

Richard experienced a regression in 2016 after totaling over 1400 all purpose yards as a Sophomore in 2015. Richard has shown some pretty nifty cuts and he’s built thick and low to the ground; allowing cuts that string together well when he’s afforded some space to work.

Running Back Kalen Ballage – 6030, 220 – Senior

Arizona State has a difficult task, trying to find adequate touches for Ballage. Richard shares the touches 50/50 and is a solid runner in his own right but the offensive line has been a work in progress; making running the ball consistently an issue. Ballage got a lot of carries out of the wildcat formation last year but yards were still difficult to come by. Ballage is a gifted physical athlete with receiving skills to compliment his burst and size. He’ll only be able to showcase so much unless his blocking improves; but he’s got the tools to be pretty spectacular.

Defense

Hybrid pass rusher Koron Crump – 6030, 220 – (JUCO) Senior

A JUCO transfer who played his first season with Arizona State last year, Crump was productive with penetration plays in the backfield. His first step is very attractive as a potential EDGE rusher, but he’s undersized and needs a great deal of refinement in the technical areas of his game. Could be a potential developmental project with quality upside.
