A recent tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Aggies’ Defensive End Myles Garrett may be less of a consensus first overall pick that we’ve all presumed. Garrett has been pegged as the top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft since the fall; yet the Cleveland Browns are reportedly not fawning over Garrett’s physical ability.
Should the Browns elect to go a different direction in 2017; I would consider it a mistake. Garrett has finished with the highest output score of the year and in all my years with NDT Scouting (four).
What makes Garrett so impressive is his growth as a player; plus the retention of all of his physical explosiveness. Garrett, like many gifted players, will face a transition period moving into the NFL; he will no longer out-class opposition with such ease many weeks of the year. But there’s nothing in Garrett’s track record to suggest that additional growth and development are unreasonable expectations.
Should the Browns elect to pass on Garrett, the San Francisco 49ers will not have a difficult decision when it’s time for them to turn in the card.
