Michigan State Spartans vs Indiana Hoosiers 10/01/2016

Michigan State Spartans v Indiana Hoosiers

Saturday, October 1, 2016

Memorial Stadium/Bloomington, IN

Score:  Indiana (23), Michigan State (20)

Notable Prospects Entering the Contest

Michigan State Offense

Josiah Price, TE, Senior:  Price was a balanced contributor as both a blocker and pass catcher. While he doesn’t have much athletic upside, he is a reliable target in the passing game that you can leak out and provide a steady option as an easy check down or to beat short zones. He did this in two important situations; once to convert a 4th and 1 and the other to tie the game at 20 late in the 4th quarter. As a blocker he works hard to establish his body position and hand placement but lacks functional power to create space but is decent technician. Stock:  Same

Michigan State Defense

Malik McDowell, DL, Junior:  McDowell demonstrated why he is such a special in this game as he dominated the line of scrimmage and made big plays. He was explosive off the ball and played with superb hand technique. This was the best usage I have ever seen from him in terms of his length to keep his chest plate clean and disengage from blocks. His athleticism and flexibility were both outstanding. No matter where he lined up across the front, he dominated. He was ejected for targeting in a call that I do not support which was a big factor in the Hoosiers comeback win.  Stock:  Up

Montae Nicholson, S, Junior:  Nicholson continues to look impressive when I watch him. He does a terrific job of processing plays and taking proper angles to the ball to position himself to make tackles. He is physical and aggressive in pursuit while capable of functioning as an extra box defender or deep safety. Stock:  Same

Demetrious Cox, S, Senior:  Cox always appears a bit late in reacting to play concepts and lacks ideal assertiveness. His misread on the game tying TD with 8:23 left in the fourth quarter was costly. He guesses a lot. Stock:  Down

Riley Bullough, LB, Senior:  Did not play due to injury.

Indiana Offense

Dan Feeney, G, Senior:  Did not play due to injury

Simmie Cobbs, WR, Junior:  Did not play due to injury

Indiana Defense

Ralph Green, DT, Senior:  Green shows the capability to generate a good initial surge but that’s it. The offensive lineman always re anchor and then the rep is essentially over for Green as he does not sustain his power well, or have the necessary hand technique or quickness to disengage from blocks with any sort of regularity. He is fairly stout and doesn’t give ground but he struggles to play forward or laterally. Stock:  Down
