Injuries to Ty Montgomery and Jamal Williams, the Green Bay Packers‘ top two running backs on the depth chart, was expected to leave the rushing attack void of playmakers. That’s true only if you weren’t familiar with the Packers’ 2017 fifth-round selection out of UTEP, running back Aaron Jones.
Jones was one of my personal favorites throughout the draft process and I declared him as my sleeper pick for the position group in my superlatives series before the draft.
In Jones’ first start against the Dallas Cowboys he tallied 125 rushing yards on 19 attempts with a touchdown. He added a 9-yard reception to covert a critical third down late in the game, showcasing his skills as a receiver.
I graded Jones as a fourth-round value and noted he has starter traits in the NFL. If Sunday’s performance against the Cowboy’s is any indication, Jones just may be the future of the position for Green Bay.
Below is my 2017 NFL Draft report on Jones.
