Below are notable Syracuse Orange players eligible for the 2018 NFL Draft. This program showed signs of life under head coach Dino Babers in 2016; who proved himself to be an engaging and fun personality while helping to commentate the 2016 National Championship game on the Coaches Panel courtesy of ESPN.
Middle Linebacker Zaire Franklin – 6000, 230 – Senior
Linebacker Parris Bennett – 6000, 208 – Senior
This duo of second level defenders found great success as the primary stoppers on the Syracuse Orange defensive front. Bennett is a tweener with an underwhelming frame for playing linebacker at the next level; but he has some likable traits. Bennett plays with a frantic approach and a hot running motor. His slashing style as a delay pressure playing allowed him to show late in the backfield on a number of occasions in 2016. As the team’s leading tackler in 2016, Bennett will be charged with another quality year if he’s to be taken seriously as a prospect.
Franklin, on the other hand, figures to make a significant play for an NFL career. He plays with a “see ball, kill ball” approach and has a good nose for splash plays (5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss in the past two seasons). Franklin possesses an athletic build and has movement skills to warrant consideration.
