2018 Louisiana State prospect primer

Running Back Derrius Guice – 5’11”, 218 lbs.- Junior

Guice averaged an astounding 7.6 yards per carry last season. Known for running angry, Guice has the explosion to carry the LSU offense on his back. At the start of this season, he is on the Heisman radar and could continue the trend of RBs being drafted in the top of the 1st round.

Quarterback Danny Etling – 6’3”, 215 lbs. – Senior

Right now, Etling has the “game manager” stamp on him. He’ll look to learn from new LSU offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, who developed Nathan Peterman into a draft worthy QB last season.

Offensive lineman Will Clap – 6’5” 314 lbs.- Junior

Clap immediately made his mark, gaining freshman All-American status. Then he earned first team All-SEC as a sophomore; not allowing a single sack. This season, he is moving from guard to center to replace Ethan Pocic. Another successful season, combined with his resume and versatility, will make him a hot commodity in the draft.

Defensive End Arden Key – 6’6”, 265 lbs. – Junior

Key is a long, rangy edge defender that can wreak havoc as a pass rusher. He has good lower body flexibility to bend the edge and he plays with hustle to run down ball carriers. There are some off field questions that will need to be answered but his abilities have him as a lock for 1st round conversations.

Cornerback Donte Jackson – 5’11”, 175 lbs. – Junior

Jackson is carrying the LSU defensive back torch with blazing speed. He ran the 60-meter dash in 6.63 seconds; meaning he’s projecting to challenge running the 40 in the 4.2s! To solidify his profile, he needs another season showing above average ball skills and the willingness to set the edge against the run.
