2018 Illinois Illini prospect primer

Below are the notable Illinois Illini eligible for the 2018 NFL Draft. The team saw an exodus of some talented players in last year’s Draft, including Dawuane Smoot, Carroll Phillips and Hardy Nickerson Jr. The program has found a lot of success in recent years passing defensive linemen through but will need some unknown players to step up to the plate. The team lost it’s top 5 defenders in tackles for loss (59.0 total tackles for loss).

Offense

Wide Receiver Malik Turner – 6030, 205 – Senior

Turner is a big, long body playing on the boundary. He utilizes his size well and showcases great concentration to be able to see throws and play over top of defenders. He averaged an impressive 14.8 yards per reception last year and was the biggest source of explosive plays for the Illini.

Defense

Cornerback Jaylen Dunlap – 6010, 190 – Redshirt Senior

Dunlap was the team leader in passes defensed and that combativeness in space has caught the eye of many scouts, including Senior Bowl Director Phil Savage, who made a point to look out for Dunlap during Illinois’ 2017 campaign on social media.
