2017 NFL Draft Report: DE Derek Barnett, Tennessee

The following Derek Barnett NFL Draft report is a sample from Kyle Crabbs’ 2017 NFL Draft Prospectus. The NFL Draft Prospectus consists of 300 prospect reports and is available with an NDT Scouting Premium Subscription

Tennessee’s Derek Barnett has set records throughout his career with the volunteers. His disruption plays are frequent and throughout the course of the 2016 college football season seemed to always come when the Vols needed them the most.

Barnett’s career credited sack total with the school program is listed at 33.0 sacks (although College Football Reference did not recognize one of his sacks in 2014); good enough to set the school record. Barnett also finished just one tackle for loss away from the program record.

His true value as a player lies with his run defending skills; he’s got an impressive ability to set the edge and will consistently overwhelm blockers with his strength and hand usage.
